Vocabulary - Word - Nishbar - נִשְׁבָּר
In our grief, we cling to God’s promise in Psalm 34:18. The Hebrew word nishbar—“broken, shattered, crushed”—reminds us that God draws near not when we are strong, but when our hearts feel in pieces. As we mourn our two great lights, we rest in the truth that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Vocabulary - Word - Jehovah-Rapha
Jehovah-Rapha translates to "The Lord Who Heals" and is one of the most comforting names of God found in the Bible. It reveals God’s desire and power to restore you, offering emotional, physical, and spiritual healing when you are broken or hurting.

In the beginning...
An ancient Jewish fable reveals that all 22 Hebrew letters auditioned to open the Word of God. While others bragged, Bet stepped up and said, "Open creation with me, for I stand for Berachah (Blessing)!" God agreed, starting the universe with a blessing. Meanwhile, humble Aleph stood silently in the back. God rewarded its modesty by making it the first letter of the Ten Commandments (Anochi / "I Am").

Vocabulary - Word - Tohu va-Vohu (תֹּהוּ וָבֹהוּ)
"The earth was wild and waste (Tohu va-Vohu)..." This Hebrew phrase from Genesis 1:2 describes a catastrophic, formless chaos covered in pitch-black darkness. John 1 mirrors this backdrop to show that Jesus enters our personal wreckage in the exact same way. When your life feels empty, broken, and completely out of control, the Creator steps directly into your Tohu va-Vohu. He binds the chaos, orders the mess, and speaks His unshakeable peace over your darkest storms.

Vocabulary - Word - Zoë (ζωή)
"In him was life (Zoë)..." John uses this specific word to describe eternal, spiritual life, completely distinct from bios (physical life). John uses Zoë over 30 times to show that true life is not just about living forever after you die. It is a quality of life you can experience right now through an intimate relationship with Jesus. He is the ultimate source of spiritual vitality, filling your daily existence with His unquenchable light.

Vocabulary - Word - Logos (λόγος)
"In the beginning was the Word (Logos)..." John uses this specific term to reveal Jesus as the eternal, pre-existent Creator God. To Jewish readers, it recalled God speaking the world into existence in Genesis. To Greek readers, it meant the ultimate reason balancing the universe. Jesus is not just a historical teacher; He is the divine principle, speech, and reason of God. He is the active force holding reality together, bridging the ancient world directly to your life today
